Hidden Treasures Of Portugal

Most people visit Portugal for the Tagus Valley and to visit Lisbon, which is certainly an amazing place to see. However, many people have no idea about the wonderful hidden treasures within Portugal and that remain untouched by everyone except by tourists in the know. There is a reason they don't tell you about these areas, and it is because they enjoy keeping the secret all to themselves. However, it is time that the secret finally came out. We'd like to share some of the hidden treasures within Portugal in the hopes that you'll not only be able to see them for yourself, but in the hopes that you'll share them with others when you return.

One of the most sought after places in Portugal is the Madeira region, which is a metropolitan area that is full of great shopping and entertainment. This area has traditionally been kept a secret by the rich, but thanks to some new developments it has become affordable by all walks of life. Madeira is home to several casinos, trendy shopping malls, and fancy restaurants. If you are looking to spend some time on a resort beach location, then consider Madeira as the best in Portugal for that type of travel.

Another area that many people don't tell you about, is Braga, which is a very historic part of the country that is full of ancient churches and cathedrals. It also happens to house the largest Catholic diocese in the country and is full of lush gardens and quaint villages. This is the town to visit if you simply want to slow down and relax for a few days. You won't find any beaches, but you will certainly find a lot of great food and inexpensive places to stay. You can spend an entire day taking pictures and sightseeing if you choose, or you can just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

The last city on the list is the city of Obidos, which is home to an ancient medieval town surrounded by walled villages and cities. This isn't really a place to stay for longer than a day or so, but it is certainly a wonderful day trip. You'll be able to see some of the most unique architecture in the country while capturing the medieval history of the Mediterranean. There are plenty of local hometown restaurants as well and you'll be able to find some of the best cuisine in the country there.

When you visit Portugal, you'll definitely want to visit Lisbon and Porto if you can, but it wouldn't hurt to visit some of the lesser known parts of the country too. Many times, the popular areas are full of tourist traps and high priced fare. This isn't the case in the lesser known areas and you are more than likely going to find that you will fall in love with the look and feel of these smaller areas. Tourist hotspots are nice, but if you really want to capture the feel of any country, then the best places to visit are the ones that nobody talks about. I hope you get the opportunity to find out for yourself and see some of the best that Portugal has to offer in the process.
